Most power tools require batteries and chargers to use, and these are usually provided with the tools themselves. However, you may decide that you would prefer an additional battery and/or charger to speed things along. There are several reasons you may want to do this, but whatever the situation an extra battery or charger can prove a valuable addition to your collection.

Additional batteries serve several uses. Primarily, they are there to quickly swap in when the battery that came with – and powers – your tool runs out of charge. In this situation, simply remove the battery, place it in the charger, and replace it with the fully charged battery to use in its place. Once this new battery has run out of power, the original should hopefully be re-powered, or even fully charged, allowing you to continue the cycle repeatedly until the job is done.

You may also want a new battery or charger because your original set is starting to waver in terms of efficiency. Perhaps the charge doesn’t last as long as it used to, or maybe one of these accessories has been damaged beyond repair. It could also be that the smaller components that enable them to charge no longer function or detect/are detected when the battery is inserted into the charger.

It is always best to purchase accessories from the same brand that produced the original tool if this is possible. This ensures compatibility and also means you’re better able to avoid knock-off products that don’t allow for as practical or efficient a user experience. Different batteries may also offer different lifespans with each charge.
