Take Decorating Outside with Exterior Painting

Painting doesn’t just stop when you get to the door. There are a wide range of outdoor paints available for homeowners to choose from too, each specially formulated to create the perfect stylish finish for your exterior surfaces.

So, which kind of paint is right for your exterior project? Picking out the right paint for the job is the best way of ensuring a clean finish and smooth application. If you are unsure or just need a little extra inspiration, take a read through the guidance section below where we’ll help you decide which kind of paint you need.

Picking the Perfect Finish

After deciding the best paint type for the job, you’ll then need to consider which finish you think creates the best look for your surface. There are a few standard finishes across most of the exterior paints we offer, whilst some are individual to certain paint types.

Matt

Flat and non-reflective, matt paints create a smart and clean surface layer that is ideal for hiding bumpy and uneven surfaces.

Satin/Silk

A stylish mix of matt and gloss finishes, satin produces a more subtle, low-sheen look that beautifully complements a range of different surfaces.

Gloss

Ultra-shiny and reflective in appearance, gloss paints dry to a high-sheen, hard-wearing finish that easily withstands all the bumps, scuffs and general wear that outdoor surfaces are exposed to.

Smooth (Masonry)

As implied in the name, smooth finish masonry paints are formulated with a smooth and creamy consistency that can be applied easily to larger surfaces.

Textured (Masonry)

Perfect for very uneven, cracked and bumpy surfaces, textured masonry paints have a finely textured formulation that provides durable protection and a rougher, earthier look.

Hammered (Metal)

Hammered metal paints are specially designed to mimic the look of hammered metal once dry. Depending on the paint you go for, you can achieve varying kinds of distressed and textured looks that stylishly resemble cast iron or galvanised metal.
