How to Choose the Right Bath for You?

We have been cleaning ourselves in baths since time immemorial. It is no surprise then, that many consider the bath the centre piece of any bathroom – it’s where it gets its name from after all. The right bath can make your room, it can pull all the various design elements together into one cohesive whole or, worst case, keep them separate and disjointed.

Finding a bath that will provide the right stylist direction can be daunting. Which is why we’ve taken the liberty of putting together this small guide. A list of do’s and do not’s that will help you find a bath to take your bathroom design to the next level.

What Type of Bath Do You Need?

We offer over half a dozen different types of baths here at DIY Megastore, all of which can be used to great effect in the right circumstance. It is important to take note of your needs when looking for a bath to make sure you get off the starting line correctly.

Standard Baths

By far the most common type, standard baths will more than likely be the first thing to come to mind when looking to do up your bathroom. This is for good reason: there is plenty of variety here both in size and design. Due to their popularity, they are also more affordable than some of the alternatives. You should choose a standard bath when you are looking for something simple yet effective and do not have any requirements other than a bath that looks great and can keep you clean.

Freestanding Baths

Similar to standard baths in terms of function, freestanding options tend to possess more stylish and luxury designs. Ideal for pretty much all designs of bathroom, freestanding baths still have quite a variety of models available but are far more suitable when the look and atmosphere of your bathroom are your top priorities.

Corner Baths

With the two most common baths types out of the way, we move onto to those designed with a more specific purpose in mind. In this case, space saving. These baths are ideal for small or awkwardly shaped bathrooms and often come in rounded shapes which help to achieve a streamlined look.

Shower Baths

Shower or bath? An old debate but one this option perfectly circumvents. Shower baths are just what they sound like, a bath with a shower head installed at one end. These are one of the most practical options, allowing you to get ready quickly in the morning and take a relaxing soak in the evening.

Our shower baths are also available in P and B shapes to allow for extra room both when showering and bathing.

Walk-in Baths

Built for increased comfort and more importantly safety, these baths limit the chance of injury when getting in and out of them. Typical safety features can include low step ins, handrails and slip resistant materials. They can also feature an extra wide seat, making the evening bath an even more relaxing experience.

Whirlpool/Spa Baths

A must for any luxury bathroom, whirlpool baths combine the simple utility of the tub with the pampering of a day at the spa. Typically built with multiple jets around the inside, these baths can provide an all over body massage. Due to their increasing popularity, they are also available in an impressive range of shapes, sizes and styles.

Other Things to Consider Before Buying

Size and Position

With the type of bath determined, you still have to take care to buy one which will nicely fit into your bathroom’s layout. If you are refurbishing or building from scratch up it is integral that you have a drawn up plan to make sure the bath you buy isn’t too big or too small and can be connected to the water mains.

Taps

The type of bath you choose will directly affect which taps are going to be suitable. Some baths can be used with either mixer or single lever taps whereas others may need them mounted elsewhere. You should also take this into consideration when choosing the position of your bath in the room, especially if they need to be mounted on the wall on floor.

Bath Panels

A lot of baths will come as part of package with panels included, but some may not. You should always double check if this is the case before buying. Fortunately, not having panels will never be a deal breaker thanks to our range of bath panels which will give you a wide choice of finishes and colours to choose from.
