Room Thermostats

With a room thermostat installed, you’ll never have to worry about your room getting too hot and stuffy. Simple yet effective in function, room thermostats are designed to turn your heating on until your space reaches the desired temperature, and then switch it off again until the temperature drops back down. They cleverly operate by sensing the air temperature within your home in order to maintain the perfect level of warmth.

There are a variety of different room thermostats available to choose from. Many are simply installed on a wall surface away from directly sunlight and radiators for easy user accessibility. Some are wired directly to your boiler, whilst others can be wireless or even battery powered.

Mechanical thermostats utilise a bimetallic strip or gas bellows for more simplistic operation whereas digital systems offer an electronic display screen to ensure optimum accuracy and precision. Each type offers its own functional benefits, user experience and level of control so take the time to consider which will best suit you, your home, budget and heating system.

Boiler Thermostats

Your boiler thermostat is an essential component that sets the temperature of the water pumped throughout your radiators. The thermostat dial may be marked with a series of numbers or from a minimum (MIN) or LOW to a maximum (MAX) or HIGH setting.

In basic terms, the higher thermostat is set, the quicker your home will warm up. Setting your thermostat to a MIN setting of around 50°C will allow the system to run more efficiently and is typically the recommended setting in the spring and summer. A MAX setting will heat the water to around 80°C and above. This setting will heat your radiators the quickest and provide a higher level of warmth in the cold winter months.

Cylinder Thermostats

If your boiler system incorporates a hot water cylinder, a cylinder thermostat will be installed to control the temperature of the water inside and prevent it overheating. The thermostat measures the water and turns the boiler off once the water has reached the set temperature.

Easy to control, the thermostat can be set to the chosen temperature you wish the water to begin re-heating by turning a dial with marked numbers. Remember, a cylinder thermostat basically operates similarly to an on/off switch so the rate of heating will not be changed by turning up the dial.
