Floor Paint

We can't find products matching the selection.

From commercial warehouses to residential garages, highly durable floor paint can have a surprising impact day-to-day. Whether it’s preserving your floor or making it easier to move items around, a tough and smooth surface to work on is always welcome. But whilst there is certainly less floor paint than other interior paints, there are still a few factors to consider before picking up your tins.

Surface Type

Unsurprisingly, the surface you’re planning on painting has a big influence on your choice of floor paint. If you’re in need of a solid, level surface over concrete then consider an epoxy resin paint. Alternatively, you could use polyurethane paint although these are not as strong. If you’re dealing with a wooden floor, you’re better suited to using specially formulated wood paint.

Traffic Levels

In addition to the surface type, the level of traffic will have a big influence on the type of floor paint you use. Areas with high footfall or mobile machinery will benefit from a touch, scuff resistant ‘high build floor paint’. These usually consist of an epoxy resin or polyurethane formulation with special formulations able to make them slip resistant too.

Chemical Exposure

If you’ll be using chemicals in your warehouse or garage, you’ll want to consider a chemical-resistant floor paint. In some cases, you may simply be able to apply a chemical-resistant topcoat to your existing floor. Whatever approach you take, such paint will usually consist of an aliphatic polyurethane resin that’s highly resistant to a variety of chemicals.

Cure Time

Particularly important for commercial premises, fast-curing floor paint allows you to get on with work as soon as possible. Whilst this will rely on an appropriate ambient temperature and will require you to lay your new floor at pace, this is almost essential in many instances.

Brand

There are a growing number of brands offering paint specially designed for use on floors. That said, there are only a handful who have a proven track record. These include Ronseal, who make superb garage floor paint, and Blackfrair, who made highly rated professional floor paint.

With the surface type, traffic levels, chemical exposure, cure time, and brand taken into account – you’re set to choose your floor paint. But if you still need a hand, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.
