The post required for your garden gate will depend on the fitting location, the style of gate you’ve chosen as well as its dimensions and overall weight. A heavier gate will need a heavier-duty gate post to provide complete support so make sure to accommodate this when ordering.  

Gate Fixings 

To ensure a secure and reliable fit, make sure you’ve purchased the appropriate fixings for your garden gate installation. Metal fixings should be galvanised, and powder coated to prevent rusting and corrosion.

Depending on the material you go for, the level of maintenance needed for your gate will differ. 

We stock pre-treated wooden gates which provide excellent resistance against the effects of external weathering. However, to fully protect against rot and decay, you will need to re-treat every few years with appropriate treatment, stain, varnish etc. 

Metal gates require a little less upkeep and will last longer without regular maintenance. That being said, it is likely that you will need to cover up chips, scratches, and marks over the years with specialist metal paints and water-resistance treatments to minimise the risk of rusting.
