The toilet cistern is the tank section of the toilet that holds the necessary volume of water needed to flush. Most modern toilets have the cistern mounted directly onto the toilet bowl – this style is called a close coupled toilet. There are a multitude of other contemporary and traditional styles to choose from, incorporating ultra-effective dual flush systems as well as high-level, concealed and exposed systems too.
Most common cistern types fill directly through a water supply pipe. This water is then controlled within the cistern by flush and fill valves designed to fill the bowl during a flush then re-fill the cistern tank once finished. Many older toilets operate using a single flush button or lever; however, the more current dual-flush models are far more water-efficient and reliable.
