With such an extensive variety of garden buildings to choose from, knowing which is the right choice for your garden can seem tricky. Whether you are on the hunt for something small and practical such as a storage box or want a full-scale upgrade with a shed, summer house or even a log cabin, take the time to consider which structure blends the best with the layout and functional needs of your garden environment.  

The first thing you’ll need to evaluate in terms of practicality is the size of the space you have to work with. The last thing you want is to take up your entire garden with one building, overwhelming the landscape and deeming your garden virtually unusable. This doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the functionality you want, just perhaps look for a more practically sized structure within the same category.  

For example, if you’re in search of a greenhouse but are pretty limited in terms of outdoor space, smaller-scale greenhouse shelving, a grow tunnel or even a tiered growhouse may provide the functional growing environment you desire in a more space-effective structure.  

Also, consider the actual layout of your garden design. Even if you have a lot of outdoor space to work with, the position in which you place a garden structure makes a huge difference to how open the space actually feels.

Placing a log cabin right in the middle of your lawn could completely cut off the back half of your garden, making it appear far smaller than it actually is. To optimise a larger landscape, a building such as a summer house or log cabin may be better placed towards the back to still allow full use of the area in front.  

Ask yourself a few questions. Am I cutting off any part of the garden with this positioning? Do I have safe access to different areas of my garden? Is the entire garden still in view with this placement?
