Impact drivers and wrenches come in an array of forms, shapes, and sizes, and their specific purpose means they’re perhaps not as common as some of the more versatile tools you’ll find in this category.

Impact drivers are designed to deliver concussive rotational blows to the area they are applied to, delivering some helpful extra torque when either screw-driving or drilling. Impact wrenches, on the other hand, are used for automotive tasks, which work in a very similar way, but provide even more torque. This makes them the perfect solution when tightening and loosening wheel nuts and sockets.

These products come in a range of sizes, with the dimensions of the model often correlating to its power level; in other words, the larger the product, the more powerful it is likely to be. While it therefore may seem obvious to opt for the product with the highest power level, keep in mind that this increase in size may make the tool more difficult to manoeuvre. They will also be heavier and likely prove to be more expensive.

There are advantages to choosing a smaller model too; they are usually lighter in weight, which means you can operate them for longer without fear of fatigue. You can also purchase these products for less, and still get much of the functionality of the larger alternatives, albeit at slightly less operating power.
