Multi-tools are highly versatile products that can be used on several projects and tasks with ease. They are particularly useful when shaping and smoothing. They can also cut, saw, and sand. The number of projects they can be used in has made them very popular in industries far beyond DIY and construction. Stoneworkers, carpenters, decorators, and other tradespeople and hobbyists alike have utilised the multi-tool in one way or another.
Multi-tools usually come in large packs or sets, often supplied complete with a carry case or box to store all of the different components. You can also purchase the tool itself separately, as well as multiple accessories and add-ons not otherwise found in the starter sets. A rule of thumb to remember is that the larger the pack – and the more accessories it includes – the more expensive it is likely to be.
Some multi-tools are completely cordless, while others give you the option to work from a wire/plug or a battery pack. This means you can choose between freedom of movement and a longer period of operation, which you may prefer if you’re tackling a larger project that just so happens to be located near a power source. Corded tools are also more likely to provide you with greater power. If this is important to you, you will need to keep an eye on the different power levels each tool or kit offers you.
