The main difference between French patio doors and their sliding contemporaries is that French doors are built on hinges. These doors are ideal for letting large amounts of light into the home, creating much brighter environments no matter the time of year. Also, their thick glazing keeps heat from exiting your home, while simultaneously preventing sound from coming in.

Types of French Patio Doors

French doors are like traditional doors but there are various styles to choose from including the single door which is a one-door panel which has a fixed or sidelight panel. The double door has two door panels which swing open together and finally, the multi-panel french door can have multiple panels that create a wider opening.

French patio doors have further style options, though the most popular features thick, clear glazing with a black or white uPVC frame. There are of course variations, with different uPVC colours as well as the material being substituted altogether for more traditional exterior door products such as oak.

Installing French Doors

Installing a set of French doors can be a challenge, with the process best conducted by multiple people in order to ensure the operation runs as smoothly as possible. If your wall has not supported French doors before, it is best to first make sure that it is suitable to hold them.

Once this has been confirmed, it is important to remove enough (safety and accuracy) of the wall to accommodate your doors. This should only be done once you have purchased the doors, so you know how the specific dimensions.
