Pick the Right Wall Filler for Your Project
With such a wide range of filler products available, it can be a little daunting to decipher which is the practice match for your project. Whilst filling a tiny hole may seem like a very simple fix, any professional will tell you that the filler you choose can really make or break the quality of the repair.
To help you narrow down the search, we’ve compiled a handy guidance section below, highlighting each of the different filler types available. Take a quick read-through to discover which filler is right for your application.
Multi-Purpose Filler
Suitable for application on a wide range of surfaces, multi-purpose fillers are available in both ready mixed and powder form. They are commonly used to fill small to medium-sized holes, gaps and cracks, forming a clean and level surface finish to paint once dry.
Wood Filler
Wood fillers are ideal for repairing small cracks or nail holes in a range of wood surfaces. They are available in the form of ready mixed and two-part fillers, suited to both interior and exterior usage. There is a range of different wood filler shades to choose from so you can ensure a close match to the surrounding timber once applied.
Exterior Filler
Specially designed to dry completely weatherproof and drillable, exterior fillers can be used to fill cracks and holes in external masonry, render and even concrete. They are sold in both ready mixed and powder forms with exceptional durability and tough resilience against all external conditions.
Foam Filler
Expandable up to 60 times its original size, foam filler is ideal for filling awkward and irregular gaps and voids, especially at wall sections where pipes have passed through the walls. These specialist fillers can be used for filling, sealing, bonding and even insulating, setting hard to completely plug the existing hole. Any excess foam filler can be easily cut off once dried and sanded down to leave a smooth surface finish, ready for painting.
Hairline Crack Filler
Typically applied by brush, the hairline crack filler is used for carefully filling small cracks in plaster, plasterboard and painted surfaces. Drying to a clean white finish in as little as 10 minutes, this specialist detailing filler forms a smooth and workable surface that is easily paintable once dry. Hairline crack fillers are not suited for use on damp surfaces so are generally used in internal applications only.
Paste Filler
Sold pre-mixed for easy application, paste filler is perfect for filling larger hairline cracks up to roughly 3mm in width. It can also be used to fill gaps in wood or shallow dents/cracks in walls and ceilings.
Plaster Repair Filler
Available in both powder and ready mixed forms, plaster repair filler is a heavy-duty filling product used to fill large holes and cracks in plaster. It sets to a perfectly smooth finish, ideal for overpainting once set. When working with deep crevasses, the filler is applied in layers, with each layer left to dry completely before applying the next.
